From the Abyss Led Astray weaves a complex narrative that explores themes of trauma, redemption, and the battle between good and evil through the interconnected lives of its characters. Set in the small town of Chance Landing, this psychological thriller delves into supernatural elements as it follows various individuals - from a vulnerable teenager to a struggling pastor, an emotionally overwhelmed youth pastor, and others caught in sinister plots far beyond their understanding. The story masterfully intertwines personal struggles with larger cosmic battles, revealing how individual choices can have far-reaching consequences in a war that transcends human comprehension.
Do you ever wonder what being the repentant thief on the cross was like? I think about him often. Although we don't know much about him, we do know that he lived a life of reckless sin. In his final moments, he recognized Jesus as the true Messiah and made a simple request—not selfish, but a truly humble plea. He asked to be merely a memory in paradise; he understood that he was not worthy of entering the Kingdom of Paradise. However, he humbled himself and demonstrated enough faith to ask, "Remember me when you're in paradise." Most of us know how this story ends: the sinner becomes the first human to be saved by grace and steps into paradise. The penitent thief is one of the most notorious characters in the gospel, yet not much is known about him. This short story, which I call a "love" story, is a fictional portrayal of these characters whose life stories are not as well-known but whose existence is vital to the overall gospel narrative of salvation. I invite you to join me in experiencing this tale of redemption, salvation, and reconciliation through the eyes of one of our thieves in my first short story in a series of three, "Dismas and the Tree."
